Canadian Wastewater Intelligence Platform

Wastewater monitoring is a simple yet powerful tool for informing community health. Combining advanced data collection, analysis, and reporting, it delivers precise, real-time insights into evolving public health trends across the Yukon.

Since inception, our Canadian Wastewater Intelligence Platform (Can-WIP) has expanded to include nine participating First Nations communities and municipalities, including the Dakwakada/Haines Junction pilot site. This innovative platform integrates cutting-edge wastewater monitoring focused on respiratory pathogens, Substances of Potential Abuse (SOPAs), emerging e-DNA applications, and emerging health threats (such as Monkeypox and antimicrobial resistance).

Can-WIP prioritizes culturally informed community engagement and capacity building, empowering First Nations to maintain full ownership and control of their data in alignment with OCAP® principles.

As a sustainable and equitable model, Can-WIP continues to set a precedent for effective emergency responses in Northern, Rural, Remote and Isolated (NRRI) communities, ensuring that all benefit from improved public health transformations.
